Active Site Again!- 1st Post; Black Physicians- Need For & Accomplishments

I know I have been away since I first began this site, but the research never stopped. I had a period of personal emergencies which resulted in a breakdown, more or less. I never stopped reading, taking notes, researching the topics that will soon fill this site. The first topic will be on children, as previously discussed. I apologize for my absence, I will talk about this more in a video later on for those interested. For now, I want to make a plea to you guys.

Before we begin with the research, I want to share that only 4% of physicians in America are Black, and this number is dropping. There is an excellent book I am just starting to read, even though I’ve had it since it came out. I had no idea it dealt with the issues I will be discussing on here. Everything happens for a reason, everything has its time…

The book is called Black Man in a White Coat by Dr. Damon Tweedy, M.D. I recently heard him in the following video talking about his book. So as of today, I will be devouring it. I can already highly suggest it because to me, simply from what he has said and the snippets I’ve read as well as the kind of soul he is, this book is an eye opening, heart breaking but needed, very needed read. I have posted both a longer discussion on his book and the topics within, and a shorter version for those with time constraints.

After his two videos is a video I came across by what some call “chance,” but I believe it meant to be. This video is called When They Knew They Wanted To Be Doctors and within is a treasure. Multiple Black doctors speak on their experience, the current state of things, the future of medicine and the need for more Black youth and children to understand how possible it is for them to also become doctors (or whatever they want to be)- but more role models are needed…

Beside this text, or above it, is a video I will post the complete video to below, but, I hope people will if nothing else, please press play on this video I have embedded it to start at a point regarding Black males and the medical field; I think what he says is so key. That is obviously more towards the end of the video however so the last video on this page is it from the start, but if nothing else I hope you guys will take time to consider not only what he says, but also hear the video in its entirety.

A quick discussion with Dr. Damon Tweedy on being Black and in medicine, his passion, hurts and concerns. And below is a longer talk on his book and experience:

Finally, this is the video from multiple Black physicians in regards to when they knew they wanted to be doctors, and the need for more Black physicians.

With that, I am off, for now. I will be posting more and more stuff over the course of the next few weeks, and that should stay consistent now. I’m back, and dedicated more so than ever because you cannot say Black Lives Matter and not look at the mental health aspect of the equation…It’s killing far too many Black men, women and children, and this can be prevented.
